Jazz on the Patio feat. The Broward College Big Band & Jazz Combos
The Jazz Program at Broward College includes student jazz combos and the Big Band, a combination of students and community members.
The vocalist featured jazz combo is a vocal trio in the jazz tradition of Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross and Manhattan Transfer as well as individual solo spotlights. The instrumental jazz combos performs various contemporary small group Swing, Latin, and Funk arrangements that span the length of contemporary jazz history from the 40's to the present. The award-winning Big Band is conducted by Broward College alumnus, Professor Waldron Dunkley, and performs everything from classic arrangements and compositions by artists such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington to contemporary style arrangements by composers like Sammy Nestico, John Clayton, and Mike Tomaro.
Students in the jazz ensembles represent Broward College at various community events throughout the year. The jazz ensemble concerts provide a vital service to Broward residents. These live performances also help shape our current students into the next generation of world class performers and inspire others to take their own musical journey.”
